WHAT WILL SYDNEY WATER
DO TO YOUR PROPERTY VALUE???

(crag 0196)

Update

Did you think that the canal land was now protected from development?

Did you think you would be able have use of the land for passive recreation by now?

Did you think that your property value was enhanced by living near such a beautiful open reserve?

Unfortunately, even the NSW Premier, Mr Carr, cannot confirm the future of the canal land. Sydney Water is still compiling options.

What is clear, is that Sydney Water, will not allow water to flow in the canal again, citing health and wastage objections.

Sydney Water have had over two years to make their intentions for the land known. It would appear that our battle to stop development on the land may not be over.

To attempt to bring the matter to a head CRAG is currently developing a proposal to request Sydney Water to turn the canal into a shallow naturally flowing creek, to landscape the area, preserving the rare flora and to create a walking/bike track to follow the canal route.

The land should then be returned to the community, just as Sydney Water did for the residents of the eastern suburbs by landscaping a tip area adjacent to the Malabar Sewage Treatment Plant.

As Holroyd City Council have previously pledged their support for this project, they would be the most logical custodians of this natural corridor, especially given their ability to maintain it along with other parkland in the area.

If you would like to help with, or have input to, the development of a professional proposal to the relevant authorities please contact one of the CRAG Executive Committee members listed on this leaflet.

What you need to do straight away...

To ensure the authorities realise we are still determined to protect the canal land please contact (preferably in writing) the Sydney Water Executives, NSW State Ministers and Federal Representative listed below.

Ask them why a formal proposal for the canal's future has not been forthcoming.

Also remind them that you expect the promise for this land, made before the last state election, to be fully honored.
